tera was a bridesmaid in a wedding i photographed last year and she is one of those people that is connected to more than just one of my circles of friends. it seems like the past two years have been a huge reminder of how small the world can be, when it comes to people knowing people. (anyone for a quick round of six degrees of kevin bacon? no? okay…) waiting for tera to get to a good time for her maternity photos was well worth it, let me tell you. well no… instead… let me show you….

i love this necklace tera has… it is her little girl’s name and was such a cute way to have her name involved in her photos.

this next shot was actually “a happy accident”. i was messing with figuring out the light as i was changing some things around and this was a quick test photo. a good reminder to always shoot something other than a person’s foot while testing light :) especially since this is one of my faves from the hands on belly photos from the day.

i kinda love it when people are not afraid to get creative with wardrobe and accessories…

after shooting indoors, we had the mad dash to the beach to catch some sun outside. we had to scrap our first and second choices and got down to beach number three just as the sun was setting. phew!

tera, i wish you nothing but the best with your new life with your little girl. thank you so much for trusting me with documenting this all-important time in your life. i hope you love the photos now and i hope they stand the test of time when you are going through them someday with your little girl and saying: “that was you in there!!” :)

mariah: spring approaches

oh, the lantings. they have patiently waited for these photos and here they are. this little shoot was held shortly before the birth of their second child. their little boy rocked the “big brother” shirt proudly and they were as fun as they normally are for their photos. look below… you’ll see what i mean…

lexi: take two | family photography

i took photos of lexi a little over a year ago and how awesome is it when people come back wanting more? it says a lot and i do not take it for granted. i was more than happy to spend time taking photos of lexi again, after how much fun we had last time (that is the previous post in my blog). for this session, we took it to the beach. enjoy.

we had so much fun with the twirling shots, we decided to try and do it one last time with more ‘hair flair’ in the ‘sun flare’ (i may try to trademark that… )

always a fun time shooting with this girl… so full of life and even brings up her own ideas for shots. hope to see you in another year or so, lexi!

jess & tommy | engagement photography

this session and couple (and wedding coming in october) is extremely special to me. i have known jess now for a few years, as we work together. she got stuck sitting at a shared cubicle with me a few years ago and she has put up with my tomfoolery as work neighbors ever since that first day (though they did try to separate us once because apparently we were laughing too much in the workplace. shouldn’t that be encouraged at an office?). jess is such a dear, dear friend and i have been delighted to experience and witness the joy of her relationship with tommy. to say i am honored to be their photographer is not even close to a big enough word.

family of four | laguna beach | family photography

back to the montage for another weekend battling it out with the other sessions down on the beach. we actually had postponed this session twice already due to the june gloom that overtook orange county this summer. i couldn’t help but laugh when i got to PCH and was in the middle of a thick coastal fog. we kind of laughed about it when we met at the beach and decided to just soldier through. blue skies are great and all, but i think most will agree they did not need to it to make these kids any more fabuloso that day!

i have said this before after family sessions, and this was no exception … and maybe one of the best examples of my thoughts on this. i love when siblings are close. love to see a big brother or big sister protect and love on their younger sibling. and, on the other side of it, seeing that younger sibling look up to their elder… it just hits this special spot inside my heart. i love capturing that for the parents.

this little girl was so sweet, shy and curious. if this family is not careful, she could have them all wrapped around her finger in no time ;)

even though the parents did not want to be involved in the day’s session, i found a little way to involve them that i feel makes a fun / alternative for a family shot:

it was great finally getting to meet this family and i easily could have hung out with them longer… one of those couples that are so completely genuine and friendly. thanks again for the opportunity to work with / for y’all and i wish you the best in the years to come with your adorable and inspirational family.

this has been a little while in the making. this post, not the baby. well… anyways… i best stop myself there. this is my new little nephew, born to my brother and his wife a few months ago now. i went over to their house a couple of weeks after he was born to take some photos of him for their announcements and here are some of their faves. congrats matt and blythe!!
